摘要

The emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis, is a non-native, invasive, wood boring beetle from Asia that was first detected in Detroit, Michigan in 2002 and has now spread to 15 states, including Virginia. It is capable of Idlling all of our native ash trees, regardless of their initial health and condition. EAB was first known to be established in Virginia in 2008 with detections in Fairfax County. Subsequent discoveries confirmed EAB to be present in Arlington, Prince William and Frederick Counties. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) established a quarantine on all ash wood products and firewood to limit movement of potentially infested material to other parts of Virginia and beyond. As of this year, the quarantine included the above mentioned four counties plus Fauquier, Loudoun, Clarke and the independent cities therein.
