All rolled into one!

Michelin's new CrossClimate has been shown not only to be much better than all-season tyres, but also to produce the performance of a Summer tyre and a Winter tyre, all rolled into one. FOR YEARS NOW, the tyre industry has been trying to get the message across to the buying public about the advantages of Winter tyres. Not just for the snowy and icy conditions in which they excel in terms of traction, handling and braking, but also superior to high-performance Summer tyres in any cold and wet road conditions where the ambient temperature is below 7℃. Here in the UK, that accounts for quite a large proportion of the year, certainly between mid-October and early April. And it's a message that has slowly been getting through, with many responsible motorists now owning two sets of wheels and tyres, swapping them over when the conditions require. Here at Volkswagen Driver we now change wheels and tyres on our 'daily driver' Mk 4 Golf V6 4Motion, swapping to Winter tyres in the late Autumn, and the VW press office often supplies road-test cars fitted with Winter tyres during the colder months.
