A 10-year-old, 75.9-lb (34.5-kg) neutered Dalmatian presented with a recurring oral mass. The mass was first noted as an incidental finding by the client, and the patient was showing no abnormal clinical signs. An incisional biopsy was performed by the referring veterinarian. Histopathology of the biopsy sample revealed the tumor to be an acanthomatous ameloblastoma, a slow-growing, benign, odontogenic tumor that arises from the periodontal ligament. When the mass recurred, the owner sought a secondopinion from a board-certified veterinary dentist.
