Adenocarcinoma with eosinophilic cells with non-overlapping low-grade nuclei arising from heterotopic gastric mucosa in the duodenal bulb: a new tumour entity?
Heterotopic gastric mucosa may occur throughout the whole gastrointestinal tact and even in extraintestinal sites. Prevalence of gastric heterotopia in the duodenal bulb has been reported to be 0.5% [1]. Neoplastic progression is exceedingly rare. To the best of our knowledge, only three cases with adenomatous change, but no malignant tumours arising from heterotopic gastric mucosa, two in the duodenum and one in the rectum, have been reported in the English literature [2-4].
