Mid-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy of textiles containing finishing auxiliaries

Infrared spectroscopic methods have their place for a fast and contact-free qualitative and quantitative analysis of various samples and chemical substances such as found in many industrial processes.In this study,mid-infrared spectroscopy in combination with the diffuse reflectance(DR)technique has been used for quantification of the textile finishing auxiliaries that were applied for improving various fabric characteristics.The results from a quantitative determination of two exemplary auxiliaries applied onto cotton fabrics from different formulations are shown and limitations of the diffuse reflectance measurement technique are discussed.
