Precise Assembly and Condition-related Maintenance of Bolted Joint Connections by Means of PMTS

Bolts have to be tightened accurately to the calculated minimum clamp load to guarantee the safety of critical bolted joints. They will then withstand the known operational loads. Under real assembly conditions the friction scattering under the head and in the screw threads normally exhibit considerable fluctuations, such that the common tightening methods cannot guarantee achieving an accurate minimum clamp load. The PMTS (Permanent Mounted Transducer System) technology offers the possibility of a fast and simple checking of the clamp load of a bolted joint at any time during and after assembly. The integration of PMTS in condition monitoring systems enables the entire condition-based maintenance of bolted connections.
