Ecological aspects and construction involved in the building of hydro-power plants

The phase plan for the Austrian Danube dating back to the fifties had already included a power plant phase in Vienna. The first project plans for the Freudenau power plant on the Danube were submitted to the Vienna authorities in 1985. A public survey was conducted in Vienna. Based on a 44 % participation of all those entitled to vote, a vote in favour of the Freudenan retaining capacity phase of more than 72 % was achieved. According to the ecologists improved river conditions will be achieved. Since the "new Danube" has been installed, only excellent water quality values have been recorded.
