Comments on the article of Ming-Hsien Li and Hong-Kean Ooi ‘‘Fecal occult blood manifestation of intestinal Eimeria spp. infection in rabbit’’ [Vet. Parasitol. 161 (2009) 327–329]

I have read the short communication published inVeterinary Parasitology 2009, 161: 327–329: Fecal occultblood manifestation of intestinal Eimeria spp. infection inrabbit by Ming-Hsien Li and Hong-Kean Ooi. I was very surprised and very dubitative regarding theresults reported in the article as well as in the presentationof these results. 1. The authors announce the existence of 15 species ofEimeria belonging to the rabbit. I underline that the rabbithere is Oryctolagus cuniculus. If synonymies are considered, there is in fact nearly 20described species (Levine, 1973; Pellerdy, 1974) when itwas very difficult to make studies on Eimeria (absence ofSPF rabbits, poly-contaminated animals. . .), from wherepossible confusions and mistakes.
