Sheep rearing in the pampas and coastal regions of Argentina is directed towards meat production. In order to maximize meat production, the fertility of the flock must also be maximized and to achieve this nutrition must be adjusted according to the physiological status of the ewes. The nutritional requirements of sheep while on heat, being serviced, during pregnancy and lactation, and after lactation are discussed. Mineral supplements should include magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, copper, cobalt and selenium. The nutritional requirements of fattening lambs are also discussed.
