Effect of cultivar on the yield and quality of japanese radish storage roots from a spring growing

Ten cultivars of Japanese radish were compared in the field experiment in spring 1995 and 1996. Cultivars Shin-Hasshu and Natsu-Minowase-3-Go were found to be unsuitable for this term of growing. Considering yield and its quality the best performingcultivars were Tenshun, Wakamiya, and April Cross. Hayabutori-Tokinashi and Tokinashi yielded the lowest. Tested cultivars differed with respect to dry weight and the content of sugar, L-ascorbie acid, and thiocyanate in storage roots.
