Assimilation of a new progressive method of producing copper rolled products in continuous casting and rolling units (NLP), the use of high-producing equipment in the production of various types of copper wire, as well as the tightening of requirements by foreign customers with respect to the quality of refined copper and copper semimanufactures (cathodes, ingots, copper rolled products) for electrochemical articles have recently created difficulties in the sale of cathodic copper on domestic and foreign markets. The purity of cathodic copper, particularly when copper wire is produced by the NLP method - excluding the copper refining operation during metal preparation for casting - is a decisive criterion of its quality. The quality of cathodic copper - aside from a minimal impurities content (60 g/t) - is also determined by its density, its spiral elongation, electroconductivity and gas-saturation capacity.
