In world electrolytic production of aluminum the basic approach in the past decade has been to design and use aluminum electrolyzers with pre-baked anodes and high unit capacities [1]. Increases in the unit electrical capacity of electrolyzers have been linked to increases in their sizes. This called for coordinating the strength potentials of the unit design, and their service lives with their energy effects. The electric energy fed to an electrolyzer is used to extract aluminum from heated electrolyte, but also has a negative effect. This is manifested in the thermomechanical deformation of elements in the design and in the destruction of carbon blocks and refractories, leading to a breakdown of the electrolyzer and reduction in its service life.
