摘要

It was established that high sulfur contents in initial materials (cokes and pitches), and consequently in anode (electrode) mixes, can lead to surface corrosion of steel, current-conducting pins, and -when there are inadequate ventilating and scrubbing systems - to contamination of shop atmospheres as well as of adjacent territories. At the same time, it was shown [1] that an increase of the sulfur content in raw material - particularly in pitch binder - will have a positive effect on the quality of roasted electrode articles, since - during the anode formation process - sulfur plays a positive role, intensifying the compaction of resinous-asphalt substances [2]. It is considered [3] that a sulfur content in petroleum cokes of up to 2 percent would be no obstacle to its use in the aluminum industry. It is well known that the presence - in anode mix - of a considerable amount of sulfur will reduce its consumption when producing aluminum.
