During the past decade, there has been a sharp increase in the number of vascular procedures performed in the United States. This rise is expected to increase as the baby-boomer generation reaches retirement age. With the advent of minimally invasive techniques to treat vascular disease, there has also been a staggering rise in the number of endovascular procedures performed. Vascular surgeons have taken an active role in adopting these new technologies, and are in a unique position of being the only specialists who can provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and endovascular treatment to patients with vascular disease.
