摘要

To the uninitiated, veterinary medicine appears to be an animal-centric occupation that concentrates solely on the care and welfare of non-human species. However, once the 'veil' of professional practice is lifted, it becomes clear that a veterinary career is also very much people-orientated.1 Veterinary staff must interact with human clients to achieve successful goals and health outcomes for their animal patients. In addition, veterinary work has become increasingly team-based, with a growing emphasis on effective intraprofessional (colleague-colleague interactions) and interprofessional (working with paraprofessionals, charities, local government) communication.2 Paradoxically, relationships with people can be one of the most satisfying parts ofa veterinary career,3 whilst accepting that some interactions can be difficult and contribute to workplace stress.1
