NEW ORLEANS — Volunteers will descend on New Orleans to help rebuild and refurbish local animal shelters 2 days before the 145th American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Annual Convention in July. It has been 3 years since Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the city, and animal shelters have been overlooked during the rebuilding process. Animal shelter staff are usually busy caring for animals and often do not have time to take care of some repairs, so the AVMA and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) asked the nation's veterinary professionals for help and got it.
