Innovation in the valve industry?

I like many others in the industry have just returned from my holidays, a time for rest and relaxation, and also I guess for some of us, an opportunity to reflect on our past, present and our future. A voracious reader; I always supplement my holiday reading with a box full of industry magazines, which I do not usually find time to read otherwise. Any thoughts of disenchantment with engineering gradually faded away as I trawled through numerous copies of The Engineer, Professional Engineering, etc..
