AS USERS BEGIN TO CYCLE THEIR TURBINES MORE AND OPERATE WITH MORE STARTS PER YEAR, MAINTENANCE PATTERNS MUST BE ADJUSTED. For almost 25 years, Strategic Power Systems, Inc. (SPS) has been gathering data on gas and steam turbines in a worldwide database known as ORAP (Operational Reliability Analysis Program). Beginning in the last quarter of 2010 SPS, working with multiple pilot partners, has also begun the collection of wind turbine data, laying the foundation for its ORAP for Wind product introduction. Participating plants include turbine technology from Alstom, GE, Mitsubishi, Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney and Siemens. "We strive to attain a statistically significant percentage of the total fleet for each type of turbine so we can represent the market accurately," says Tom Christiansen, Senior Vice President at SPS. "We have participants from all around the world."
