Cherimoya is a subtropical fruit tree in the family Annonaceae. Annonaceous species are primitive angiosperms that only relict in tropical regions that have experienced little climate change since ancient times (Bernhardt and Thien, 1987). The extantangiosperms emerged in the Early Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic and dominated through the middle of the Cretaceous (Thorne, 1977). Beetles appear to have played an important role in pollination at that time (Thien et ai, 2000).
