THIS now shortened new rail line is planned to be completed and opened in 2008 and is currently proceeding on, or ahead of, schedule. The line will connect Chatswood in the North Sydney area to Epping to the west via new stations at Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and Delhi Road. The rail link will be fully integrated into the CityRail network and will provide rail access for the first time to the growing North Ryde/Macquarie Park area. It is also anticipated that by providing an alternative path into Sydney's Central Business District for commuters in this area, the rail line will relieve congestion on the road system and also on the busy section of the Western Line between Strathfield and the City Centre. The Thiess Hochtief Joint Venture (THJV) is responsible for the design and construction of two tunnels, each 13km long, and four stations between Epping and Chatswood on Sydney's north shore as part of the 880 million dollars contract. Bovis Lend Lease was awarded the contract for Contract Management Services for the Civil and Rail Systems Works and Underground Stations.
