Pirelli 2014 Formula One tyres first details: Special F1 'winter tyres' provided at Jerez test

PIRELLI RELEASED the first details of its Formula One tyre line-up for 2014 ahead of the first winter test in Jerez. The supplier has designed its new tyres to operate within the wide range of regulations brought in for the 2014 season, which Pirelli describes as a "technical revolution'' Headlined by the presence of new 1.6-litre turbocharged engines and multiple energy recovery systems, Pirelli says the changes have led to the development of slicks with an entirely new, heavier construction, and a new tread pattern and compound for the wet tyres. Pirelli revealed that it would supply six sets of "winter" Formula One tyres to each driver in Jerez, as well as six sets of slick tyres (two medium, four hard) and six sets of wet tyres (three each of the intermediate and full wet specification). These have been produced to combat the cold conditions that limited running time at Jerez in 2013 testing.
