The title of this article may sound like the title of a song from long ago, but it is really to remind us all of the important so called "little things" that we often ignore when we get busy. Whether we are involved in management, sales, or production, the little things we ignore and the short cuts we take when we get busy can become big problems. In many cases when the little things we ignore become big problems, we fail to realize that the big problem was caused by a little problem we failed to notice. A good example of this happened to me as a retread plant manager. I noticed some of the raw materials we used were sometimes poorly labeled and workers would often ask me what certain items were used for. I was planning to make larger labels for all our raw material (rubber, paint, cement, and solvent) containers with a short statement of how each item was to be used. I got busy and never got around to doing it.
