HANDLING THE MATERIAL HANDLERS

Commercial tire service personnel are required, as we know, to service tires on medium-duty trucks and trailers. However, the material handlers that are used to load those units with the product they deliver also have tires, and truck-tire techs are expected to know how to service those, too. Specialized rigs and skills are needed for working on solid and press-on tires - the type of tires you see on forklifts that operate on docks or in warehouses - but the typical commercial tire service truck will be equipped to handle pneumatic forklift tires. Pneumatic tires are more common on machines rolling around in yards where products such as lumber, pipe, sheet-rock, and roofing materials are loaded onto flatbed trucks and trailers. All commercial tire techs should be familiar with at least the inflatable industrial tires, as customers expect that much from their tire service.
