REAL-TIME MONITORING THE CURE PROCESS OF A SMART COMPOSITE MATERIALS

This paper presents a processing methodology which has proved to be effective in the cure cycle design and optimization, serving as a real time monitor for press curing and autoclaving of composites and determining the processability of a polymeric composites. The methodology uses a sensor, based on mechanical impedance analysis. It involves the measuring of the relationship between a force input (excitation) and a motion output (response) between various, points in the composite material and therefore it can provide a quantitative indication of the resin cure state. Rapid measurements and analysis of the dynamic mechanical properties such as δ, G' and G" can be obtained in real-time by using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) spectrum analyzer created by Lab VIEW software.
