Smart Grid Grants Transform Delivery: Two major utilities provide a status update of smart grid projects with lessons learned to date

he Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, was put in place to accelerate investments in grid modernization. The program makes available US$3.4 billion in federal funds matched with private-sector resources for a total investment of at least $7.8 billion. The Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is leading the grid-modernization efforts.
