The use of the CRS towers provides the new 500-kV circuit with the ability to withstand tornadoes and the other severe storms frequent to the Argentine Pampas. The circuit's electrical performance already has satisfied the design criteria. In addition to the lower cost for material and construction of the line, phase compaction has substantially reduced the cost of the global reactive compensation. Compared with transmission line constructed with traditional guyed V towers, this CRS project reduced the overall investment by 8% to 11%. However, Transfer's decision to increase the structural strength of the circuit may reduce the cost saving to some 5%, but this does not include the benefits arising from lower revenue costs (for example, fewer outages, reduced fault repair costs and outage penalizations). Technically, this transmission line is an outstanding achievement, introducing for the first time new concepts and practices in Argentina that will benefit the electricity wholesale-market in terms of price, quality and system performance.
