摘要

For a given casting geometry, the risering design can have a critical effect on the solidification patterns and, consequently, the quality of the solidified casting. In the present study, a mathematical model and its associated numerical methodwere established, having the capability of handling fluid flow caused by both solidification shrinkage and natural convection in the melt. The model was used to evaluate six risering designs, including different riser location, size, number andinsulation, for the same casting geometry. For each design, fluid flow and solidification patterns were calculated, and possible hot spots in the casting were identified.
