This paper presents the results from a series of wear tests involving austempered chilled ductile iron containing 0.1% Mo, and Ni content varying from 0.5 to 2.5%. By using copper chills of different thicknesses, the effect of wear resistance of varying the chill rate was also examined. The wear tests were carried out using a modified pin-on-disc type wear-testing machine. It was found that wear resistance is highly dependent on the Mo and Ni content combination of the material, as well as rate of chill. Moreover, wear resistance also increases monotonically with hardness, fracture toughness, tensile strength and nodule count.
