Mackerel Dreaming: Another year at the Mackerel Islands has ended with a good haul of big red fish from the bottom, high-speed attacks on the surface and a week of fine and fishable, calm weather. Fourteen boatloads of anglers trekked up from Perth and Busselton for this year's annual Mackerel trip. It meant travelling along the seemingly endless road through the red dirt country of the Pilbarra. Our first night was spent at Boologaroo sheep station which became our resting place for the night. Normally we stay at a motel in Carnarvon, but in the last two years we've driven 80km further on and to stay in the station's shearer's quarters, It's an enjoyable stay made better by a fantastic barbecue meal and a few bottles of red wine around the campfire.
