A methodology study for drainage impact assessment

Drainage Impact Assessment (DIA) is required in Hong Kong as one of major project components for the development of infrastructures and urbanization. The Technical Circulars issued by Government Authorities outline the objectives of DIA and the study scope that a DIA should cover for both public and private sector projects. To cost-effectively implement a DIA and provide valuable and reliable information via the DIA, a refined study strategy should be formulated prior to the commencement of a DIA study or at a proposal stage. This paper aims to outline the methodology for DIA study on the basis of experience gained through numerous DIA studies in Hong Kong. It presents a conceptual DIA model, develops a solution in determination of study catchment size that may control overall workload related to limited budget and time, and proposes a sensitivity analysis as a new technical approach to a DIA study.
