County tractors are renowned for their tractive performance, so are well suited to tough conditions such as forestry, although many found their way into other industries where they may still be found working for a living. Airports have required the use of tractor tugs for many years to move aircraft around the site. The tugs must have plenty of power, plenty of weight to achieve traction and take up drive smoothly. In the late sixties, County provided a modified version of their 1124 model to a number of different airports across the UK. Jersey airport acquired one of these special 1124 models and it provided many years of sterling service. The tractor was finally sold from Jersey in 2005 and has just come back on the market. Cyril Groombridge heard of the tractor after it was advertised in Tractor and Machinery last year and had it brought back to the mainland in the autumn. Based in Heathfield, East Sussex, Cyril Groombridge bought the 1124 as a precaution, should heavy snow occur over the winter time. The tractor wasn't needed so it is up for sale.
