In 1970, David Brown released the 990 and 1200 models, its first four wheel drive tractors. The Italian manufactured Selene axle was used, but road speeds were slow. It was late 1976 when the company released the 1210 and 1410 models in 4WD versions. German manufacturer rammer supplied the front axle which gave a better final drive ratio and a more practical top speed. Later, in 1978, four wheel drive became available again on the 990 and also on the 996. These later models were available up to the end of 1979 when the new 90 series range was introduced. This buyer's guide features the larger 1210 and 1410 models and what to look for when buying a used example.
