摘要

North Weald airfield in west Essex has been in existence since 1916. A well-known Battle of Britain base during World War Two, it was finally sold to Pepping Forest District Council by the Defence Department in 1979. Since then the local council has promoted its use for sport and leisure with provision for gymnastics, golf, archery and shooting. Parts of the runways are used for various motor sports, driver training and model aircraft flying. A massive Saturday and Bank Holiday Market attracts more than 25,000 people each week and other events at the site include bus rallies, fly-ins and community 'fun days.'
