摘要

High levels of aggressive free radicals result in acute and late side effects during radiotherapy. Selenium substitution is a possible way to activate endogenous detoxifying sys-tems. Thirty-one patients were investigated with resected head and neck cancers undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy with single doses of 2 Gy daily to a total dose of 60 Gy. During this period, all patients received 500 mug sodium selenite per day.
