摘要

Western Tasmania is one of Australia's most well endowed metallogenic regions. Mining first began in the area with the discovery of cassiterite at Mount Bischoff in 1871 and continued intermittently for more than 100 years, ceasing finally in 1978. The site has not been rehabilitated, with fresh sulphides exposed in surface mine workings. Acid drainage is being generated by sulphide weathering from the open pit, and is discharging from the main underground adit. Controls on the mobility and fate of arsenic in acid mine drainage (AMD) and its associated sediment at the Mount Bischoff mine site in western Tasmania have been investigated using a suite of spectrometric tools.
