IIM PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS - 2001 FUTURE LIES IN METAL SPECIFIC APPROACH

It is sufficient and adequate to say that the policy of raising output of metals by Government of India during the last 50 years has been a right step. Now it is time to distinguish between one metal from the other and see what kind of a Road Map should be in place for each of them separately. Classifying all the metals under one common head may not prove to be the right solution.Barring some strategic metals, it may even prove advantageous to import some metals and raise the output of some metals which have distinct advantages in-built into them in Indian conditions.Thus the mantra, if I may say so, lies in "Metal Specific Approach" rather than "Any Metal Approach".Indian Institute of Metals with its long history of proven support to the development of Indian Metals and their future growth would continue to be and available for any services. They could be fully relied upon to assist both the Government of India as well as all state Governments when called upon to do so.
