US: Cristal Suffers Four Week Outage at Ashtabula & Faces Water Supply Issues

Cristal lost about 7500 tonnes of TiO2 pigment output as a result of an outage lasting just over four weeks in Q4 2010.Effective as from Sunday 26 September 2010, Cristal declared force majeure on all paint industry grades of TiO2 pigments manufactured at its Ashtabula-2 plant in Ohio. The reason given for this was "an unanticipated production issue outside of the company's control." Mr Mark Stoll (Vice President, Commercial) said: "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our business partners as we manage through this production disruption caused by events that our outside our control."
