UNITED KINGDOM: Huntsman Pioneers Usage of Organic Rankine Cycle Technology

The Greatham TiO2 complex owned by Huntsman Pigments, located near Hartlepool in northeastern England, is the site for a new facility employing an innovative technology for generating electricity from waste heat. In this case, the waste heat source is hot water produced at the 150,000 t.p.a. chloride-route TiO2 pigment plant. The new facility, which came on-stream in March 2011, is expected to generate up to 200 kW of power, representing a potential reduction of annual carbon dioxide emissions of 600-750 tonnes.
