VIETNAM:Threatened Ilmenite Export Ban Prompts Three Ilmenite Smelter Projects

Back in August 2005,the Xinhua News Agency(of Beijing)reported that the VietNamese Government was planning to prohibit exports of ilmenite with effect from 1 January 2008.Such a prohibition,if successfully implemented,would have a significant impact on the China's TiO2 feedstock intake.Already in 2005,VietNam's exports of ilmenite were running at more than 500,000 t.p.a.,with more than 60% going to Chinese customers.
