PLACE AND SCIENCE IN THE NETHERLANDS.A SPATIAL PERSPECTIVE ON DUTCHUNIVERSITIES AND THEIR KNOWLEDGEOUTPUT

For The Netherlands in Maps series, the 100thanniversary of the TESG journal calls for a ret-rospective (cartographic) reflection on theessential constituents of the journal, which wereckon are the science of places (economic andsocial geography) on the one hand, and themission to distribute its products (as embodiedin publications or dissertations, but also in uni-versity educated individuals) on the otherhand. In the introduction to the 2009 maps(Pellenbarg & Van Steen 2009) we explainedhow we wanted to achieve this, within the limi-tations of a series of just five maps.
