Conjunctival mast cell tumor in a Golden Retriever. A case report.

Objective: The study was conducted to describe the diagnostics and treatment options of a conjunctival mast cell tumour. Procedure: Six-year-old female Golden Retriever was examined in the study. Results: A mast cell tumour in the area of the conjunctiva and the lateral thoracic wall was diagnosed by aspiration cytology. This was followed by an excisional biopsy of the tumour of the conjunctiva and exstirpation of the mast cell tumour on the lateral thoracic wall. Clinical follow-up was performed for two years. Conclusion: Surgical treatment achieved a partial remission in this conjunctival mast cell tumour with a satisfactory clinical course. Clinical relevance: Aspiration cytology of mast cell tumours is an important component of the oncologic examination to facilitate a targeted treatment plan. Surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are different treatment options available for the therapy of mast cell tumours which can be employed individually for each patient..
