It is generally well known that the mechanical behavior of rubbers is described by the hyper-elastic model in which the nonlinear elastic response of the material is combined with incompressibility (or near incompressibility in the case of filled rubbers). There are a large number of mathematical models proposed so far which are based on either a phenomenological or mechanistic viewpoint. The phenomenological models are developed by directly observing the stress versus strain curves and proposing a semi-empirical model.
