Improving safety without compromising productivity

Tire manufacturers experience the same issues faced by their counterparts in other industries: improve productivity while complying with continuously evolving safety regulations. Pressures for improved financial performance call for lean, optimized manufacturing. Despite advances in technology and automation, tire manufacturing remains labor-intensive, a partnership between operators and powerful, massive, ever-higher speed machines that compress, cut, bond and splice steel and fabric components with great precision, all to meet the demands of a seemingly insatiable global need. Unfortunately this also creates ample opportunity for work-related injuries. Tire manufacturing is a potentially dangerous business. Fortunately, safety issues are taken very seriously and plant managers all have a focus on worker safety.
