Chinese Metallurgical Coke Export Market Remaining High

Even after the turn of the new year, export market of Chinese metallurgical coke has been maintaining high level. Offer prices to Japan for prompt shipments have now risen to 260 US dollars or so. In the middle of December last year the Chinese Government released export licence (EL) for seven million MT for export in 2005 (half of the total EL tonnage for 2005), which resulted in expectation on downfall of export price of metallurgical coke from end last year through early this year. Since suppliers still stick to exports at the price level of 260 US dollars or so, however, the effect of the release of the EL could not be reflected on offer prices.
