On 24th March JFE Steel completed repair works of the No.2 blast furnace in Keihin Area of East Japan Plant and blew in the blast furnace again. The inner capacity of the blast furnace was expanded to 5000 cubic meters from 4052 cubic meters before the reparing. As a result the No.1 blast furnace (4907 cubic meters) was abolished on 23rd March. The Keihin No.2 blast furnace inaugurated in 1979 had been idle since July 1990 after 11 years operation because the Keihin Area entered single blast furnace operation.
