Output Of Stainless Steel Products In Japan For CY 2006 Increases Slightly From That In 2005

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry compiled recently a forecast of the demand for stainless steel products in Japan for October - December quarter of 2006 and, on the basis of this forecast, the quantities of stainless steel products to be produced in Japan for the calendar year (January - December) of 2006 are as per the table attached hereto. Namely, Japan produced 1,607,000 tons of stainless steel products in the first half (January - June) of 2006 and is expected to produce 1,700,000 tons in the second half (July - December) of 2006. Consequently, Japan is anticipated to produce 3.307,000 tons of stainless steel products in the calendar year of 2006, which will have a slight increase of 1.8 percent compared with that (3,258,000 tons) produced in the preceding calendar year of 2005.
