Canadian Metallurgical Coal Export Industry Undergoing Ordeal

Canadian metallurgical coal export industry is approaching an era of severe challenge. With falling metallurgical coal export prices together with soaring costs by steeply rising prices of materials and other suppliers, mine operations have been exacerbating since the turn of 2006. In Canada, slump in metallurgical coal market lasted long from later half of the 1990s through the early 2000s and as a result in February 2003 three major coal suppliers in those days integrated their metallurgical coal operations to create Fording Coal Partnership. As a result metallurgical coal suppliers of this country were concentrated to one single entity.
