Response to the Letter to the Editor regarding 'Ovarian fluid plays an essential role in attachment of Eurasian perch, Perca fluviatilis eggs'

We hypothesise that this rather unusual release of single eggs may have been caused by improper hormone propagation. In other studies females were injected with 0.1 and 1 pellet kg-1 at 24 h intervals and eggs were collected 3–5 d after the second injection at 14 °C [2] and [3]. On the contrary, in our study [1] females were injected one time with 0.5 pellet kg?1 body weight and eggs were collected 12 h later at 14 °C. Although the eggs were carefully checked for maturity by morphological methods [1] it is possible that maturation was incomplete under these conditions.
