Nearly 23.2 million tons of recyclable paper were shipped from the U.S. last year, up approximately 12 percent. However, if you look at all buyers other than those in China, exports declined 6 percent from 2010 levels, reports Resource Recycling. Chinese demand last year at 15.8 million tons jumped 23 percent, with shipments to China representing more than 60 percent of foreign demand. The average price of exported paper in 2011, at $162 per ton, rose 3 percent.
