Hair methylmercury and therapeutic monitoring.

Schoeman et al's1 assiduous discussion analyzed the appropriateness of therapeutic monitoring of hair mercury in women of reproductive age. They used accepted criteria for therapeutic drug monitoring of methylmercury (meHg) in hair to address timely issues related to infant neurodevelopment and risks and benefits of maternal seafood intake. Their approach provided an opportunity to expand on and update issues relevant to maternal and infant low-level mercury exposure.
